Southern California EXTRA Developmental Soccer League (EXTRA Program)
The Southern California EXTRA Developmental Soccer League (the EXTRA Program) is a competitive circuit designed to support AYSO EXTRA teams within Sections 1, 10, and 11. It offers committed players the opportunity to play at one of the highest levels within AYSO—while staying true to its core values and philosophies.
The program is structured to:
-
Enhance AYSO participation by recruiting and retaining players and volunteers.
-
Deliver high-level competition without being limited by traditional Section boundaries.
-
Provide a Fall Season with a postseason tournament (no combined Spring season, though Sections such as Section 1 and 11 may host individual Spring play).
Program Highlights
-
Age Divisions: Boys and girls divisions from 9U to 16U may be formed.
-
Training: Led by highly trained coaches focused on skill development and sportsmanship.
-
AYSO Principles: Fully aligned with AYSO’s Six Philosophies, Rules & Regulations, Bylaws, National Policies, and EXTRA Program Guidelines.
-
Not a Replacement: The EXTRA Program is not meant to replace a Region’s primary program—it is a complementary opportunity for advanced players
The EXTRA Program Guideline can be found on the website located at AYSO SCEDSL. Please read before committing to the program.
Eligibility & Tryouts
Tryout Requirements: All players must wear soccer cleats and shin guards.
Waiver & Fee: Players not registered in the 2024–2025 AYSO Fall or EXTRA seasons (or not part of a tournament team) must:
Primary Program Restriction: Players selected for the EXTRA Program may not participate in the standard Fall season.
There are eligibility requirements in the EXTRA Program Guideline. It can be found on the website located at AYSO SCEDSL. Some but not all highlights:
An individual team member is limited to one AYSO primary season team.
The SCEDSL Program operates as a "Side-by-Side'' program. According to AYSO National regulations, a player involved in the SCEDSL Side-by-Side program cannot play on any other AYSO team during the same season, nor are they eligible for All-Star play.
Players are expected to prioritize their teams as their main non-school activity. It is anticipated that every player attends each practice and game at the agreed-upon times.
To fulfill the player commitment requirement, players cannot be enrolled in or participate in other Club or non-AYSO soccer programs during the SCEDSL Program's Page 5 of 19fall primary season. However, as long as compliant rosters are maintained for the SCEDSL postseason tournament, players transitioning to club programs in the spring will be allowed to participate in the postseason tournament, provided they meet alleligibility requirements during the fall primary season.
Players are strictly prohibited from practicing with, competing for, or serving in any capacity as a "guest player" for any other soccer club during the Fall SCEDSL regular season.
